Week of October 15

WOW... it's time! One last deep breath and get ready for an experience that will change your life, either good or bad.

Some people realize that this event was more than they could take and vow never to do it again. Some people leave this event feeling energized with a renewed sense of hope, caring, faith that YES, together, we can find a cure for this disease. Most people leave with blisters... (maybe just one! :) ) but they also leave with stories to tell and a smile in your heart that will never be replace.

My heart smiles on all of you as you take that first step of the journey on Friday. The fear and anxious will melt and the smiles, laughter and yes, tears will heal the body, mind and soul.... and yes, blisters too! Don't be afraid because you are never alone... you are part of an incredible community that is resilient and strong and always caring and supportive. Enjoy every moment, every step, every conversation, every cheering supporter, every guy wear a pink bra, every little boy on the corner with the "Thanks for helping my mom" sign... just enjoy! This time will fly so sometimes it's good to just slow down and enjoy! It's not a race... no one is there to cheer for the first walker BUT everyone cheers for the last!

Here's the training schedule for the week.

Stay Alert, Stay Alive

Week of October 8th

Ok...we are down to almost single digits! Nervous? Excited? It's totally normal! The biggest thing now is to continue that training... you may want to add a couple hills to your training walks this week and next ...HINT, HINT!!! ;) Don't worry so much about the sand from the beach...hills would be better!

Plus it's time to pack. Remember less is more! You probably won't use 1/2 of the stuff you bring. Plus if you pack now, you have a few extra days to get those things you can't find! ;)

Your credentials should be arriving either this week or the beginning of next. They will have all your information you need on it.... meal types, tent location, towel service (if you purchased it). I have seen several questions regarding tentmates floating around.... the deadline to request a tentmate was September 19. After that, all assignments are random. The best way to check who your tentmate is, is to go back to your online check in and look at the confirmation page. It will have your tent location and tentmate.

I have also seen some emails about ride share and Thursday night hotels. Also try checking the message boards on the 3-Day page. They get busier closer to event.

Here's the training schedule for the week.

What to Pack for the 3-Day

Our “A Day on the 3-Day” Workshop was great. Thanks to everyone who came out! For those who couldn’t attend I wanted to put together a little blurb to get you up to speed.

First of all, soft sided duffle bags work best. Leave the suitcase for your next vacation. Be creative with your bag. You will see lots of pink bags and finding yours in a sea of pink is not fun!

Once you have the bag, get another….garbage bag that is! Line the inside of your duffle bag with a garbage bag. Trucks get unloaded even in the rain, so be prepared. There’s nothing worse than rain while you walk but then add wet clothes to change in to…yucky!

I suggest packing all your stuff into 2.5 gallon Hefty zipper bags. Why you ask? 1. You can keep each day’s clothes together so there is no digging in the bottom of your bag for stuff. 2. Dryness …again! 3. They work great to put the stinky walking clothes back into after your shower. You have no idea what used walking clothes that have been fermenting for two days smell like! Why risk it?

As far as sleeping accommodations, pool floats work great. This time of year they are usually on clearance so keep your eyes peeled. Plus a hand pump works fine to inflate them. But a battery powered pump would be easier. Just remember…it adds weight to your bag and stress to our Gear and Tent Crew. Please be kind…35ish pounds per bag. A couple pounds over is fine….double the weight limit…nope!!

Also remember, everything must be in your duffle bag. You can not attach anything to your bag…ie sleeping bags, etc. This has happened before where folks have attached their sleeping bags to their duffles with bungee cords. Please avoid doing this. The hard working crew handles every piece of luggage and 9 times out of 10 the bungee cord comes undone and hurts someone.

Use the check list on the 3-Day home page for reference. They have a really great list.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask! :)

Week of October 1

WOW..... 18 Days!!! It seems like just yesterday we signed up! ;) Time flies when you're having fun!! These next couple weeks will fly but don't forget to get that training in.

Also start wearing what you will wear on the walk in training. If you have certain shirts or shorts, now is the time to break them in. No one likes tags and seams rubbing and on Day One is not the time to find out! Can you say...Body Glide!!! :) It's my best friend! :)

Here's the training schedule for the week.

She's coming all the way from Mount Dora so let's all come out and learn from her expertise! :)
